Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) provides detailed assessment of the integrated cardiac, ventilatory, metabolic, neuromuscular, and perceptual responses under controlled physiologic stress. This enables identification and quantification of physiological mechanisms limiting exercise tolerance and detailed evaluation of exercise performance, in both health and disease.
This 1-day workshop will cover practical and theoretical elements of CPET from the required equipment, how to set up and perform a CPET, to basic interpretation of physiological and symptom responses to enable identification of factors limiting exercise tolerance, as well as how to use data to inform individualised exercise prescription. There will be live CPET demonstrations, hands on practice, and case examples to illustrate key concepts and data interpretation. This workshop is intended for exercise professionals involved in clinical practice, athletic performance, and/or research.
The workshop will cover:
How to run a CPET: Equipment, set up, and protocolsHow to interpret CPET: Key variables for reportingPractical utilisation of CPET derived data: Exercise prescription and key thresholds
