BASES Webinar – What is a hole? And other tricky definitions.

Words and concepts are difficult to define, and different people define the same word differently. In this webinar, we will first find out that even the definition of a concept as simple as a hole is difficult to come to a consensus on.

We will then explore ideas more complex than a hole. For example, what is the difference between “exercise” and “physical activity” and “training”? Between a “subject” and a “participant”? We will pay due diligence to mechanical constructs such as power, work and energy, and think about the imprecise terms “workload” and “work rate”.

We will ponder the origins of terms to help us understand them fully, assess their historical trueness, and delve into how some of these terms are used by different groups of people: scientists, applied practitioners, coaches, athletes and the general population.
